Coherent started out in 1966 as a scientific laser company and mostly stayed that way for nearly 30 years. But, after the end of the Cold War, the demand for laser applications grew and diversified tremendously, and Coherent entered the industrial market. Forty years after our founding, the 2016 acquisition of Rofin was a major step forward in our development of a full-fledged industrial laser product line.
Today, we are a recognized leader in materials processing applications and laser machines. We service industrial customers in areas as diverse as medical devices, electronics, automotive, aerospace, energy, packaging, consumer goods, jewelry, and more.
A snapshot of the industrial processes that Coherent services includes:
- Laser Marking
Everything from laser sources through laser marking engines (lasers, plus beam delivery and control software/electronics) to turnkey systems ready to go online in your production environment. Able to mark virtually any material with the right combination of mark quality and operational features. Explore precision marking for medical devices.
- Laser Cutting
Lasers and complete tools for cutting nearly every material, including metals, plastics, composites, paper, glass, ceramics, and wood. We offer the right tool for nearly any job – ultra-short pulse lasers for cutting thermally sensitive or hard-to-machine materials (such as ceramics, sapphire and glass) with essentially no heat-affected zone. Or, nanosecond pulse-width sources for rapid, cost-effective cutting and scribing of wafers in microelectronics fabrication. See lasers for PCB depaneling.
- Laser Welding Systems
Coherent offers laser sources through complete solutions, including manual, semi-automated, and high-precision CNC systems, to service numerous 2D and 3D welding applications. All are designed with a focus on providing enhanced productivity, increased yields, and reduced production costs. And, our systems are designed to integrate seamlessly into your existing production environment. Discover advanced fiber lasers for challenging e-mobility welding tasks.
Since 2016, we’ve incorporated the assets and expertise of Rofin into our extensive portfolio of materials processing lasers and laser-based solutions. Our goal is to continue to deliver high-value materials processing solutions to our customers and expand the range of applications we can service.
