Christopher Dorman

Executive Vice President, Industrial

Dr. Christopher Dorman is EVP, Industrial at Coherent, leading the company's industrial businesses across Europe, the United States, and Asia. He was previously EVP, Lasers from 2023, and has been with Coherent since 2002 in a range of commercial and operational roles, based at the company's Glasgow facility, where he was Senior Vice President and General Manager.

From 2013 to 2024 he chaired the UK Photonics Leadership Group, the industry body working with UK government on photonics policy, and from 2008 to 2024 he chaired Photonics Scotland. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and a visiting professor at the University of Strathclyde. In 2019 he was appointed Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth II for services to photonics, laser technology, and exports. The Institute of Physics awarded him the Katharine Burr Blodgett Gold Medal in 2024 for contributions to physics in industry, and in 2025 Technology Scotland presented him with its inaugural Special Recognition Award.

Dr. Dorman earned an MA (Oxon) in Physics from the University of Oxford and a Ph.D. in Lasers and Quantum Physics from Imperial College London.
