Optically Pumped Semiconductor Laser (OPSL) Technology

Wide range of output power and wavelength scalability allow OPSLs to be tailored to the needs of your specific application.
Coherent Inc.

What makes Optically Pumped Semiconductor Lasers unique?

Only Optically Pumped Semiconductor Lasers (OPSL) have the ability to provide you with power and wavelength scalability in medical, life sciences, research, and display applications.

If your application requires laser light in the UV through the infrared wavelength range, OPSL technology gives you the power you need - from the milli-Watts to the Watts power regimes. Our current OPSL product offering covers the wavelength range from 355 nm to 577 nm.

The new generation of Verdi G Series products for pumping is based on high power OPSL technology. The Verdi G2 and Verdi G5 add value for 532 nm solutions required for pumping Ti:Sapphire lasers. And, the Verdi G Series enables scientific end users to access new wavelengths such as 355 nm.

Ask us about other wavelengths including solutions that emit the fundamental infrared beam from an OPSL.

OPSL technology is well proven over several years with more than twenty thousand installed lasers in both laboratory and rugged field applications. Its superior reliability ensures consistent uptime and the lowest cost of ownership in both demanding industrial and research applications.

OPSL Technology Advancements in OPSL Technology

OPSL technology

IR pump light from a laser diode is focused on the front surface of the OPS chip, where it is absorbed by pump layers to generate gain in the chips quantum well structures. The integrated Bragg mirror of the OPS chip serves as one cavity end mirror. The second end mirror completes the external resonator that can include spectral filtering and harmonic wavelength conversion. The beam is transmitted through the output coupler.
