As one of the fastest growing segments for laser-based solutions, Life Sciences covers a broad range of applications from scientific research leading to medical advances, to clinical functions where lasers are used in diagnostics.
Life science is important to improve our collective health
and well-being, and providing the technology that is vital to
the advancement of medicine is a major focus of Coherent's
life sciences strategy. Our lasers enable advances in life science
research and clinical and medical applications such as
flow cytometry and cell sorting, microscopy, DNA sequencing
and retina scanning. Lasers are predominantly used in
these applications to excite fluorophores attached to a sample,
allowing researchers and clinicians to perform a variety
of important tests at both the cellular and molecular level.
Lasers for these applications are as varied as the instrument devices themselves, and span the spectrum from continuous wave diode or optically pumped semiconductor lasers (OPSL) to ultrafast titanium:sapphire systems. It is our mission to enable new laser based applications taking advantage of a leadership in innovation.
