The ability to synchronize the repetition rate of passively modelocked lasers enables many applications:

• Synchronization of the Mira or Micra to an external RF source, e.g., particle accelerator
• Synchronization of two Mira lasers or two Micra lasers for various applications, e.g., CARS imaging
• High-power DFM/ SFM

CARS microscopy applications:

• Imaging complex cells without dyes
• Locking two independent picosecond tunable lasers with low jitter lock for better image quality
• Requiring fine tunability of one laser to the specific Raman transition: Beta-Lock

Synchro-lock AP Description:

• Uses active stabilization of laser cavity length to synchronize one laser to another, or to an external clock
• Three intracavity actuators match slave laser cavity length to master (laser or external clock)
• Actuators controlled by feedback electronics
• High-speed photodiode(s) monitor laser repetition rate(s)
• Higher (9th) harmonic content of photodiode signal provides higher S/N in feedback electronics, which provides tighter lock
• Result – jitter specification <250 fs RMS, 0.02 to 160 Hz
