The TracER

The TracER™ is a high-performance, battery-powered, and easy-to-use portable forensic laser system specifically designed for the rigors of modern criminology and forensics. A highly versatile system, it can be used to locate fingerprints, fibers, body fluids, bone fragments, tooth chips, narcotics’ residue, and a variety of other types of trace evidence, even in high ambient light environments. The TracER provides 5W of narrow spectral output power at 532 nm and thus offers many times the sensitivity of an alternative light source. TracER provides an unprecedented level of illumination, ergonomics and functionality in a portable forensic laser system. It finds evidence and prints that you could never find with a lamp or ion laser, at a price point that is far more affordable than earlier laser-based systems.

System Components

The TracER system is based on Coherent's unique, industry-leading, 5W optically pumped semiconductor (OPS) all-solid-state 532 nm laser. This laser is smaller and more efficient than any other green laser available today. We have leveraged these advantages into a design that provides the most compact, portable, high-power green laser on the market. The improved efficiency of the OPS laser has even enabled us to power the system from batteries for true field use. TracER features a 10-foot armored light-delivery fiber and an innovative multifunction handpiece with integrated laser controls. Included in the fiber-delivery system is an automatic speckle integrator that homogenizes the laser light for uniform illumination across the viewing field. The handpiece controls the laser shutter, the illumination level, and the laser spot size. The standard system provides functionality for most forensic applications and is compliant with relevant CDRH regulations for laser exposure.
